Yorkshire Netball are hosting their Goalden Globe awards live on Facebook.
We have put together the attached video which includes all the West Yorkshire nominees, please feel free to use this via social media to promote the event. We have some fantastic nominees On the Yorkshire Netball Facebook page there is a live event where all nominees will be announced next week (one a day between the 16th and 22nd at 9am). Please wherever possible share the event with everyone across the county. Following on from the England Netball, Black Lives Matter ‘Here to Listen’ Forums, West Yorkshire Netball held its own Forum with our Black and Minority Ethnic members. We wanted to hear about the experiences of women within our own county, so we could look to plan for the future.
During the Forum we heard about so many different experiences, which were incredibly powerful and we can’t thank everyone who took part enough. Hearing about these experiences has strengthened our commitment to make changes. We will continue to listen, learn and develop our plans through ongoing feedback to check and challenge the progress being made. A key learning from our Forum, as with England Netball, was that racism and racial discrimination can manifest in lots of different ways, and over time, this leads to hurt and pain. We don’t want netball to make anyone feel this way, ever. Our ambition is to build a culture of inclusion, equality, celebration and the desire to change. We are at the beginning of this journey. To show that we are still ‘Here to Listen’, one of our first steps has been to set up a designated email, so we can continue to listen and support members from our Black & Minority Ethnic communities. racialequality@westyorkshirenetball.co.uk The purpose of this email is to be:
Over the coming months, the county will be looking at how we, along with support and advise from England Netball and others, can continue to implement further changes. It is with great sadness that West Yorkshire Netball announces the passing of Hilary Miller on 12th November 2020 from COVID-19. Our thoughts and condolences are with her family at this difficult time
On her move to West Yorkshire from Birmingham, where she played for Linden NC, she joined the Leeds Athletic Institute NC, playing WA/GA. She then went on to start up her own netball club, some 45 years ago in 1975, through a night school class at Shipley College. Today this would be known as a ‘Back to Netball’ session. Some might say, she was a pioneer of our sport! At the same time, the West Yorkshire League was established and Shipley Netball Club was born. A club Hilary was passionate about and where she played, coached and umpired, as well as being it’s first Chair. Until her retirement in the late 90’s, she could always be seen every weekend out on and around the netball court. We know there will be many of you from across our West Yorkshire netball family who will still remember her. Her legacy is a strong netball club, now known as Shipley Swifts Netball Club, a Silver CAPS club, which has developed from one senior team and now boasts some 10 teams playing at both senior and junior level. A club that still has players and members that were inspired, helped and encouraged by her. We know how proud you were of the club and everyone will miss you but will ensure your legacy is not forgotten #RIPHilaryMiller ♥♥♥ |
