West Yorkshire County Performance Trials 2021/22
The 2021-22 season has been a fantastic season to restart the performance pathway following the challenges of Covid.
We have had a group of dedicated and committed coaches with varying age and experience to support and deliver the sessions. Currently we have 11 coaches: 1 level 3, 8 level 2 and 2 level 1 coaches, with most of the coaches available next season.
Following September trials and then a late trial in October, we have successfully run 5 performance groups, including 2 county groups, 2 satellites and a development group. We have had over 100 athletes within the pathway this year with representation from nearly all West Yorkshire junior clubs, and our strengthened links with the district competition has allowed us to give 20 girls the opportunity to join the satellite and performance pathway during the season.
Training has been complimented with play days, where the athletes have been able to put in practice the skills they have learnt and developed in training, and our county groups have also enjoyed match evenings against other counties. These play days have been supported by the officiating lead and have been an excellent opportunity for trainee umpires to practice and be assessed as they move forward in their umpiring.
With the Leeds Rhinos superleague franchise now established within Yorkshire, our aims for the performance pathway is always to develop individual players and move these athletes up through and into the franchise programme, following in the footsteps of many current players. Following the Rhinos trials In January, one athlete was invited to the u15 Rhinos competition squad and 9 invited to the Rhinos academy.
Our final session and presentation evening on Monday 9th May was an opportunity for the athletes to come together as a group and for us to celebrate all their hard work, commitment and development this season. Congratulations and well done to all athletes for this season, and thank you to the parents, carers and club coaches for their continued support.
